It was a mislabeled container of radioactive materials, sent by Los Alamos Labs to the WIPP site in Carlsbad, whose danger was covered up in Los Alamos, before the barrel of waste blew up underground, exposed a dozen workers to radiation and forced the WIPP site to close for 3 ½ years and counting.  Patrick Malone of the Center for Public Integrity says both the errors and the dishonesty are parts of a malign pattern of mismanagement inside the national nuclear weapons industry.  Firing the Los Alamos management is supposed to change that…but why did it take 3 years before the fired managers left their jobs?

When it comes to experience with immigration policy and the inner workings of ICE, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement service, reporter Marcelo Rochabrun of Pro Publica says the team assembled by now former Secretary of Homeland Security Gen. In 1946 William Perry enlisted in the US Army and was sent to Japan.  There he lived the grunt’s life of collaborative survival and saw first-hand, the horrors of nuclear war.  Both experiences shaped his career as an entrepreneur and Secretary of Defense, building better homes for non-commissioned officers and helping disarm the weapons of the cold war.  The latter feat was achieved through co-operation with Russia…amost inconceivable, he admits unhappily, today.
